A 68-year-old man is now dead after he was struck down on the Williamsburg Public Road, East Berbice-Corentyne on Saturday morning by a hire car.
The man identified as Winston Williams called “Willo,” was allegedly struck down by a speeding motor car bearing licence plate number HC 3825, sometime around 06:30 hrs.
According to reports, the man was heading in a western direction on his bicycle when he was struck from behind by the Red Toyota Fielder wagon.
The driver allegedly lost control and came to a stop on the northern parapet after colliding with a bus shed.
According to eyewitnesses, Williams’s motionless body was picked up and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Williams, who was employed as a plumber, leaves to mourn his siblings and other relatives. Meanwhile, the driver of the car who was identified as a 47-year-old resident of South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, who plies the Corentyne to Georgetown route daily, is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
