THE Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Homestretch Avenue will today be the venue for the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation’s (GAPLF) first competition for 2018.

The junior powerlifters and newcomers will have their first opportunity to go for glory in the National Novices/Juniors Championship today. The weigh-in will begin at 07:00hrs while the action will start at 09:00hrs

84KG Record Holder Lisa Oudit will be on show as a guest lifter

Lisa Oudit who is the 84kg record-holder will be guest-lifting along with Nadina Taharally who is the 72kg Master 1 Pan-Am and South American gold medallist, Taharally is also the vice-president of the GAPLF.

Among the fresh blood who will be looking to impress is Runita White (84+kg first-time lifter), Junica Pluck of Bodybuilding Fame (63kg first-time lifter).
Brandon Badal who is an 83kg Sub Junior, will be competing in the Juniors Championship while University of Guyana Lecturer in Microbiology, Miss Ede Tyrell (72kg) will be lifting for the first time.

One to keep an eye on as well will be Susan Rodrigues, who is a 57kg first-time lifter; 70-year-old Noel Cummings (Masters Bodybuilder) will be competing in the 63kg Master 4 class as a first-time lifter as well.

At this competition it is understood that the GAPLF will relax only “the Singlet” rule for Novices men and Novices women.

Last year’s female Unequipped winner was Cavis Rodney (84+kg), with Male Junior Equipped going to Kevin Briglall (59kg) and Male Junior Unequipped taken by Romario Gonsalves (59kg).

The Male Novice Equipped was Thristan Kamal (Male Open 66kg), while the Male Unequipped went to Marley Vyphuis (93kg)
