THE Guyana Chronicle wishes to retract an article published Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in our newspaper headlined: “Criminal charges for Coen Jackson…DPP recommends criminal charges against Bishops’ teacher”.
The information for this article was provided by a staff of the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who is now denying ever doing so. Guyana Chronicle nevertheless, unreservedly retracts the erroneous article and offers our sincerest apology to Mr Jackson, his lawyers and everyone else involved in this matter.
Below is the full statement issued by the DPP
Pursuant to an article published on page 3 in the Guyana Chronicle dated Wednesday, January 31, 20L8 headlined “Criminal charges for Coen Jackson… DPP recommends criminal charges against Bishops’ teacher”, please be advised this advice WAS NOT given by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to the named newspaper and/or reporter. The DPP’s Office wishes to state that the police file with regards to the Coen Jackson matter was received on December 8, 2017.
lt was given due legal attention and was returned on December 18, 2O17 to the Guyana Police Force with legal advice for the police to conduct further investigations and upon the completion of the further investigation, the file is to be returned to the DPP’s office for further legal advice.
The published article in today’s edition of the Guyana chronicle is totally false and misleading. We strongly urge the Guyana Chronicle to issue a retraction of its published article together with an unequivocal apology to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
