A JOINT Services lance corporal and the driver of a taxi are expected to be charged this week after they were busted on Saturday with three parcels of compressed cannabis, hidden inside a gas stove that was in the trunk of the black Fielder-Wagon vehicle.

Police said a traffic rank whilst on a motorcycle patrol on the Strathspey Public Road, East Coast Demerara observed a hire car which was Georgetown-bound overtaking several vehicles on a “solid yellow line”.

The vehicle driven by a 27-year-old Berbice resident with two occupants was stopped and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station; a search revealed three parcels of compressed cannabis hidden inside a gas stove that was in the trunk of the black Fielder-Wagon vehicle. The driver and one of the occupants who is a Joint Services lance corporal have since admitted to the ownership of the illegal substance which has a weight of 1,022 grams.

The suspects both of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice are assisting with the investigation and are likely to appear before a magistrate shortly.
