FOUR persons inclusive of two female Brazilians are in police custody after lawmen, investigating a robbery, came under fire at Tabatinga, Lethem, Tuesday night. Police also found a large quantity of marijuana Tuesday night in the border town.
According to Press Officer, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, police investigators in ‘F’ Division are continuing their probe into a robbery at Lethem on Tuesday during which suspects were arrested. Acting on information, Ramlakhan said ranks went to a house at Tabatinga, Lethem about 22:30hrs Tuesday night and on arrival were forced to take cover as several rounds were fired at them from inside of the building.

The area was cordoned off and the lawmen, using their tactical training, subsequently gained entry into the building and arrested four persons, including two females who are Brazilians. A .38 revolver, a 9mm magazine and forty-two live rounds of ammunition were found in the house. Investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, Police ranks acting on information, also Tuesday evening stopped and searched a vehicle in the vicinity of Takatu Bridge, Lethem. A parcel containing 103 grams of compressed cannabis was found hidden in the left side door compartment of the vehicle. Police said the driver, 51, and a 31-year-old mechanic; both Brazilians, are in custody and will be charged soon.
