A MAHAICONY businessman is calling on the Guyana Police Force to conduct a thorough investigation into a crash that totally destroyed his Toyota Rav 4 vehicle, PVV 1109, which was parked on the parapet in front of Lot 17 La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on New Year’s Day.

The businessman, Navindra Singh, who owns a lumber yard and hardware store in Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara said that his vehicle was completely off the roadway when a Suzuki vehicle, PTT 9200, crashed into the parked vehicle, moving it several feet away, squeezing it between a fence and utility pole.

He noted that the driver who identified herself as Candice Canzius claimed that she fell asleep behind the wheel resulting in the crash.
Singh, however, said that the police corporal who visited the scene did not conduct a proper investigation. “He operated like he was not even a police, not even a breathalyzer test was done, and this was on New Year’s Day when many persons are driving under the influence,” the businessman said.

Further, the businessman said when he visited the Den Amstel Police Station and later the Leonora Police Station he noticed that his vehicle along with the other involved in the accident were not in the police custody but was in Hague WCD where the driver lives.
“Now the police at the station tell me that the driver was placed on $40,000 bail and she will settle the matter, now there is no statement and nothing legally binding this claim.

Now on Tuesday when I visited a lawyer with the driver, she later objected to a settlement and there was no agreement,” he said.

He questioned the poor police work that results in citizens having to face the royal run around in order to have things properly done in a systematic manner. “Now someone has to be charged, and my vehicle has to be replaced, can the commander and commissioner of police advise me on the path to take since it’s in their oath to serve and protect,” he said.
