Work on key gov’t projects to begin shortly

–following the award of their contracts

SOME $40.7M has been awarded to K.P. Thomas and Sons Contracting Incorporated for the supply and installation of operation room doors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Minister of State Joseph Harmon on Friday explained that the operation room doors are special swing doors at the entrance of the hospital’s operating theatres.
The doors, he said, will be installed at the hospital’s six operating theatres in accordance with the contract.

Another $38.5M contract has been awarded to 4A Engineering Enterprise for the construction of a building with office space and living quarters in the commercial district at Lethem, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo). The works fall under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ministry of the Presidency.

Additionally, $30.6M was awarded to R. Bassoo and Sons for the construction of an immigration office in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).

Harmon told reporters at Friday’s post-Cabinet briefing that the project is part of the ongoing process by the Ministry of Citizenship to decentralise immigration services to all the capital towns in regions across the country. A similar project was recently launched in New Amsterdam.

Vision General Construction has been awarded $27,180,900 for construction of the Eccles Health Centre and a fence around it, while R. Kissoon Contracting Services was awarded $15, 737, 117 for extension of the Buxton Secondary School in Region Four(Demerara-Mahaica).
