SECRETARIES, managers and captains of 23 clubs in the Upper Corentyne area attended the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association’s (UCCA) official launching of the Roy Baijnauth’s 20/20 competition.
Held at the #73 Village Cricket Club on Thursday, the attending clubs were the #43 Scorpions, #48 Challengers, #59 Youth & Sports Club, the Yakasari Caribs, #68, #69 Vikings, #64 Fighting Marines, Guns & Roses, #72 All Stars, #77 Sports Club, Crabwood Creek Sports Club, #71 Cricket Club and #70 Cricket Club.
Also in the mix are the #70 MYO, Bomb Squad, All Family, #70 Young Blood, #73 Young Warriors, #72 Cut & Load, Skeldon Super Kings, Skeldon Titans, Scotsburg Cricket Club, and #69 Red Rose.
The clubs all acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the Executive body of the UCCA, headed by the president Mr Hamant Jagdeo.
They are of the view that this kind of competition will definitely boost the morale of all the budding cricketers in the area.
The president,, in his opening remarks to the large gathering of clubs, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the huge outpouring of support he has received from the clubs. He assured them that this competition is just one of many that the UCCA will be hosting for the development of cricket in the area. He pointed out that cricket will be played at all levels, and in every corner of the Upper Corentyne area.
Mr Vadanand Sugrim, secretary of the UCCA, in his presentation, declared that the Association will spare no efforts in ensuring that all clubs are involved, and empowered.
He said that the competition at hand, the Roy Baijnauth 20/20, will be of a high standard, properly monitored and administered. The Association will provide balls and qualified Umpires for all the games in all the rounds of the competition,
Cash incentives and trophies will be given to deserving teams. A monitoring committee will be set up to gather statistics, and other data to compile player profiles in the area.

The competition is scheduled for January 7, 2018 at venues across the Upper Corentyne area. The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association will use this competition to assess all clubs in the area, and identify players for its senior team.
