Lindeners mark advent of Christmas

–with inaugural Boat Parade and Bridge Light-up

LINDENERS a few Fridays ago witnessed the first-ever Boat Parade and Bridge Light-up to be held in the mining town.
The event was hosted by outgoing Linden Mayor, Carwyn Holland, along with the Linden Youth leaders group, and drew hundreds of eager residents to the Wismar side of the Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge.
There they were treated to a short but interesting programme of activities, during which Holland stated, “It’s our Christmas celebration, and we’re bringing families together in wholesome fun through this bridge light-up, in much the same way as we wish to draw others to our town.”
Noting that the bridge light-up and boat parade was a significant step in the right direction, Holland said:
“Over the years, our bridge has become infamous. Today is its rebirth, as we demonstrate the beauty that is unique to Linden, the only town that is divided by one of our nation’s three main rivers.
“Linden is the only twin town in Guyana. I am optimistic that we will build on this.”
According to Holland, there is a rumour doing the rounds that Linden is fast becoming the Number One town in Guyana in less than two years, and its all thanks to the indomitable spirit of its people.
“It’s because of you; it’s because of the hard work you have been doing. It’s because of the efforts of our councillors, Holland said, adding:
“So Linden, bring your dreams; bring your ambitions, your talents, your resources, your diligence and your integrity, because Linden is ours to restore and rebuild.
“I welcome your input and your innovative ideas. We cannot stay on the sidelines; we must be actively involved in this mission. The mission to restore Linden to its status of the bygone glory days.”
That evening, over 200 children were treated to an early Christmas present, as were some of the township’s top athletes like Daniel Williams, Chintoba Bright and Deshwana Skeete.
