SENIOR Superintendent of Police, Charmaine Stuart, has been adjudged the Force’s Best Cop this year.
The announcement came Wednesday morning when the Guyana Police Force (GPF) held its annual Awards Ceremony at the Police Officers Mess Annex, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
A sum of $17M in prizes was awarded to cops for their outstanding performances during the year.
Stuart, who is Force Director of music and culture, has been a member of the GPF for some 28 years. She was awarded for her discipline, commitment and working beyond the call of duty, including weekends and holidays, as well as for her supervisory portfolios in numerous units of the Joint Services.

It was the first time in many years a female won the Best Cop prize.
Garvin Boyce of the Traffic Department copped the Best Cop runner-up prize.
Acting Police Commissioner David Ramnarine, who addressed the gathering, highlighted the numerous initiatives and partnerships of the Force this year, including regional and international arrangements.
He highlighted the enhancement of capacity of the Strategic Planning Unit of the Force, which he noted is expected to play a “key role” in the forward thrust and modernisation of the GPF.
Ramnarine noted that the award of a scholarship to woman Assistant Superintendent Herbert by the Government of Russia for five years of study in forensic science is a plus for the Force.
During the simple ceremony, other prizes were handed out to the best cops for each division, sport personalities in the Force, ranks that were instrumental in the recapture of prison escapees as well as to those who made significant arrests, among numerous others.
