… ‘Gold is Money’ favoured against Bent Street

THE question on everyone’s lips is whether any of the remaining teams in the Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ competition could stop reigning champions Sparta Boss from successfully defending their title.

The champs who enjoy a love-and-hate relationship with the fans have shown that they are not going down without a fight and any team harbouring ambitions of dethroning them will have to be ready and well equipped to stop their march to another title.
Tonight in Albouystown, they face nemesis Leopold Street in one semi-final, after booking their place with a 1-0 win over Queen Street of Tiger Bay, courtesy of an own goal.

On the other hand, Leopold Street progressed to the last four, compliments of the skilful Omallo Williams, whose 12th strike proved enough to send California Square crashing out of the tournament.

Also booking their places in the semi-finals were West Front Road ‘Gold is Money’ and Bent Street who defeated Rising Stars and Future Stars respectively.
West Front Road first accounted for the scalp of Rising Stars thanks to a solitary goal from Randolph Wagner which came in the 17th minute of play, while Bent Street created the shockwave of the night when John Waldron netted a Guinness Goal in the 18th minute to secure a 2-0 win over the highly rated Future Stars.

What is most certain is that the two matches in the main section are high-quality matchups and fans are assured of end-to-end action as the four teams fight to determine who will make the final, set for December 16, at Demerara Park.

Meanwhile, despite the disappointment of walkovers in the Plate Section, play in this segment will see GTI Ballers take on North East La Penitence and Kingston tackle Upsetters in what are also considered to be bruising battles for the final two spots.
This segment has a winner-take-all prize of $60 000 and a trophy.

The overall winner of the G/town Zone will receive $500 000, a trophy and an automatic berth in the National playoffs, while second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will take home $250 000, $200 000 and $100 000 respectively along with trophies.
Colours Boutique on Robb Street is also on board the event.

The organisers and coordinators, Three Peat Promotions, has expressed thanks to the entire community of Albouystown for exhibiting good discipline, while the ranks of the Guyana Police Force are also being complimented for their solid support throughout the tournament.
