DOZENS of new species have been discovered in the Kaieteur National Park (KNP) and the Upper Potaro area in Guyana, the World Wildlife Fund Guianas said in a release.
Some of the new discoveries are believed not to be found in any other part of the world, and were among the most significant finding of a recent report released by WWF -Guianas, The University of Guyana, The Protected Areas Commission and Global Wildlife Conservation.
According to the release, this is the second report in a series that highlights Guyana’s incredibly rich biodiversity and represents the most recent broad-based floral and faunal assessment in this unique region. The verdant forests, rivers, streams and even tiny rock seepages within the Kaieteur Plateau teem with life, the researchers have documented. A formal launch of the second Biodiversity Assessment Survey Report is scheduled for November 16, at the Cara Lodge.
