Remanded to prison for armed robbery

AN 18-year-old labourer who allegedly robbed a couple with a cutlass at Kingston, Georgetown was on Wednesday remanded to prison by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore on two counts of armed robbery.

Junior Lewis, of Pike Street, Kitty denied that on November 4 at Kingston, Georgetown while being in the company of another and armed with a cutlass, he robbed Devina Persaud of a Samsung cell-phone valued $25,000.

He also denied that on the same day and location, while being in the company of another and armed with a cutlass, he robbed Vishal Mohan of a cell-phone valued $15,000 along with $2,000 cash.

Police prosecutor Simone Payne strongly opposed to Lewis being granted bail, on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the charge.
As such, the magistrate remanded Lewis to prison until December 6.
