A FINE all-round performance by National Under-15 all-rounder Zynul Ramsammy spurred Blairmont Blazers to a comprehensive 88-run victory over the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) when the inaugural Well Teen/Trophy Stall/Tropical Springs/Nauth’s Motor Spares inaugural Under-13 cricket tournament climaxed at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Queenstown on Sunday.

The slimly-built right-hander, who entered the fray with his team precariously placed with three wickets down without a run on the board, following a sensational first over from left-arm spinner Aryan Persaud, displayed great maturity beyond his youthful age.
By the time Ramsammy was dismissed for a well-played 60, he had initiated a brilliant recovery with opener, Timanani Caesar, whose contribution was a solid unbeaten half-century; the two sharing a fourth wicket partnership of 120 as Blairmont Blazers, who were asked to bat first, rallied to 150 for five in their allotted 20 overs.
Ramsammy, whose 53-ball knock included five fours and three sixes, returned to capture three for 15 from 2.2 overs as GCC were routed for a paltry 62 in 14,2 overs. The left handed Caesar, who carried his bat throughout the innings, struck five fours and a six and faced 52 deliveries.

Ramsammy received excellent support from medium pacer, Vickendra Singh, who took three for 14 in his four-over spell, knocking back the middle stump of all three of his victims, while Hemchand Ragbir ended with one for 25.
Earlier, Blairmont’s innings was in tatters as Persaud had a dream start, claiming wickets with his first two deliveries before striking again with his fourth, before Ramsammy and Caesar staged their rescue act. Persaud, who returned in the 17th over following his two-over stint at the start, ended with four for 22, the only wicket taker as the other wicket went via the run out route.
Ramsammy was named man-of-the-match and the Most Valuable Player of the eight-team tournament.

Meanwhile, in the women’s final played also as part of the seventh edition of the Guyana Softball Cup, Karibee girls made it a double for Berbice with a 12-run victory over Trophy Stall Angels in their 10-over softball match-up.
Chasing 83 after limiting the Berbicians to 82 for seven in their allotted overs, Trophy Stall huffed and puffed their way to 70 for nine after they were tottering at 15 for five. Ruth George was the only player to show any resistance with an unbeaten 34 which included three sixes.

Sherika Campbell was the chief wicket-taker with three for eight while Nagma Bodhoo and player of the final, Shabika Gajnabi supported with two for 16 and two 17 respectively.
Karibee girls were led to their eventual total through Guyana and West Indies player, Shemaine Campbell, whose 23 was decorated with two sixes while Sherika Campbell made 16. Mantanan Cambridge took three for 16 and Anita Allen two for 11. (Frederick Halley)
