Former Policeman, Maynard Carmichael, is the first GTT ‘Million Dollar Smile’ promotion winner as the company kicks off its promotion Monday evening at the Stabroek Market square, which will give every customer who spends $1000 or more via top-up, purchase of a handset, sign-up for ‘Blaze’, or simply pay a bill in full using Mobile Money (MMG), to win $1M.

Carmichael, 56, of Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara, who topped-up $1000 at the event, was the lucky number selected by GTT and won the $1M. When Carmichael’s number was first drawn and was called by GTT’s Marketing Manager Samantha Gooden, the father of five could not have heard that he was a winner. It was not until the third attempt that Carmichael answered from the crowd, as loud cheers erupted in celebration. “At first, I thought was a joke,” Carmichael said, telling reporters that he was sitting on his car, talking with friends in the vicinity of the drawing when his phone first rang.

“After they called the second time, I decided to answer and by then I was walking going to the crowd to look for someone…I’m happy,” the Diamond resident said with a wide smile. “I’m going to just put this (money) in the bank and see where it goes from there,” the retired member of the Guyana Police Force said, while also encouraging others to “join GTT, try your luck, because you never know when God says it is your time.”

“This is what GTT is all about,” they always energise Gooden said, adding “we want to see people smile and also, make people millionaires for Christmas.” The promotion will next head to the Better Hope Community Centre Ground on Saturday November 11, Linden on November 17, Bartica (November 24), followed by Essequibo and Berbice on December 1 and 15 respectively and back to Georgetown for a grand drawing on December 18.

“GTT wants to give Guyanese people a bright Christmas, filled with smiles and we want to make some people millionaires for the holidays,” Gooden said to scores gathered at Stabroek Market.
