Win for Upper Corentyne; West Demerara & Lower Corentyne play to a draw

WITH West Berbice defeating Georgetown on Saturday , Essequibo, East Coast, Upper Corentyne, East Bank, Lower Corentyne and West Demerara continued their battle yesterday in the sixth round of the GCB Franchise matches.

In the match between Upper Corentyne and East Bank, Upper Corentyne declared after 67 overs, scoring 291 for the loss of 3 wickets, with an overall lead of 313.
Kandasammy Surujnarine top scored with a hefty 150 off 191 balls, while Balchand Baldeo hit 79, and Rajiv Ivan 31. Keon Morris, Ronaldo Ali Mohamed and Mark Robe each collected 1 wicket off 51, 58 and 35 respectively.
East Bank, needing 314 for victory, were unable to reach the target, being dismissed for 227 in 67.1 overs. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed top scored with 96 off 90 balls while Daniel Barker added 31 and Colin Benn 30.

Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Clinton Pestano and Eon Hooper picked up 2 wickets each for 23 and 53 runs respectively, while Sean Pereira took 3 for 72. David Latchaya and Kandasammy Surujnarine picked up a wicket each. Upper Corentyne won by 87 runs.
Over at Young Warriors ground, West Demerara drew their game against Lower Corentyne with West Demerara declaring at 206 for 4 after 80 overs. Akshaya Persaud scored 101 not out, while Tevin Imlach hit 60.

Lower Corentyne tallied 153 all out in 77 overs with Alex Algoo making 68 not out and Kassim Khan 24. Bowling for West Demerara, Akshaya Persaud, Richie Looknauth, Keshram Seyhodan and Mehendra Dhanpaul seized 2 wickets each.
In the day’s play at Tuschen, Essequibo in their first innings scored 258 all out with Wijai Surujpaul hitting 58, Kemol Savory 20 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul 91.
Bowling for East Coast, young Bashkar Yadram took 3 for 52 and Royston Simon 2 for 40. East Coast in their second innings were 51 for 4, with Kevin Gordon taking 2 for 10 and Anthony Adams 1 for 12. East Coast lead by 82 runs with six wickets in hand.
