Dear Editor
IN any democracy, the media are expected to function as the fourth ‘estate’ to inform the citizenry, educate the populace and counter false impressions widely disseminated.
Pupils and students depend on the print media, electronically or otherwise accessed, for research purposes. It is in this context that the Guyana National Cooperative Union Ltd (GNCUL) commends the Guyana Chronicle for its edifying editorial captioned ‘The Cooperative Economy’ published on September 22, 2017. We are also heartened by the Chronicle’s informative editorial of June 28, 2017 titled ‘Cooperatives in Guyana’; both publications are right on the button. As I pen this, word is out that a report on ‘Revitalization of the Cooperative Movement’ prepared by a task force appointed by the Hon Minister Scott was recently handed over to the Government. We hope its contents would be studied and scrupulously commented on when made public.
