THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has expressed shock and a sense of loss at the untimely passing of TT Pro League and Intercollegiate football referee Kyle Carabon.
On Monday night, Carabon was found dead in his motor vehicle near the Tableland High School, off the Naparima/Mayaro Road. The referee, who was 25 years old, had been shot several times. The former football official was also a clerk at National Insurance Board.
Head of the TTFA Referees’ Department Wayne Caesar expressed the belief that a part of the tragedy is that the referee had shown plenty of promise where officiating was concerned.
“To say Kyle was an up-and-coming referee would be putting it mildly,” Caesar told the Trinidad and Tobago Express.
“He was destined to be a FIFA official because at this stage he was proficient in all physical and technical aspects of the tough training regime.”
According to reports, Hyland began refereeing approximately five years ago and quickly moved from zonal and community league assignments to join an ‘Elite Group’ of officials which handles the top-flight games in the nation, including the TT Pro League. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
