Guinness Cage football quarter-final action on tonight
FOUR teams will ‘walk the plank’ tonight as the inaugural Guinness Cage Football Championship moves into the quarter-final stage tonight at the National Gymnasium.
Ol Skool Ballers will play Albouystown-A from 20:00hrs, followed by Mocha versus Leopold Street at 20:45hrs, Back Circle will tackle tournament favourites Gold is Money from 21:30hrs and North Ruimveldt will battle Future Stars in the night’s final proceedings.
In the tournament’s final group-stage matches, Mocha picked up an easy three points after Tiger Bay were a ‘no-show’ for their encounter, while Ol Skool Ballers defeated Albouystown-B 2-0.
Leopold Street, thanks to a hat-trick from Okeene Fraser (4th, 6th, 12th), defeated Champion Boys 3-0 and West Front Road ‘Gold is Money’ earned their spot in the final eight with a 2-0 win over Hustlers.
Back Circle’s final game in the group stage saw them win 4-0 against MBK All-Stars, with Runnel Gordon netting a hat-trick of goals, scoring in the 7th, 12th, 13th minutes. Selwyn Williams was the other goalscorer for Back Circle, doing so in the 3rd minute.
Albouystown-A had to depend on their superior aim from the penalty mark, winning 2-1 over Future Stars, after they ended regulation time scoreless.
The proverbial kings of indoor and small goal football, Sparta Boss, will have to watch from the sidelines after losing 2-0 to North Ruimveldt on Thursday evening, in their must-win game.
Over $800 000 in prize money and trophies will be up for grabs with the winners set to receive $400 000 and the championship trophy, while second-, third- and fourth- placed finishers will take home $200 000, $100 000 and $50 000 respectively along with trophies.
