A 36-year-old lance corporal of the Guyana Police Force was on Friday charged for assaulting his lover.
Randy Martin, who is married and lives with his wife and two children at West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, denied the three charges read to him.
Particulars of the first charge alleged that between April 1 and April 18, 2017, at South Ruimveldt Park, Martin unlawfully assaulted Cassandra Wickham.
It is further alleged that on April 17 at the Kitty Seawall, Georgetown, the lance corporal assaulted the woman with whom he was having an extra-marital affair.
Additionally, between April 1 and April 13, at South Ruimveldt Martin’s actions amounted to the use of threats towards Wickham.
It was reported that the duo had put an end to their relationship and during the aforementioned periods, Martin assaulted the woman, threatened to kill her, brandished a gun at her, held her by her throat and forcefully kissed her.
He appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was released on $30,000 bail for each of the charges. The matter has since been transferred to Magistrate Leron Daly and will be heard again on September 25.
