Our fielding was not up to par – Emrit on Warriors loss

(SPORTSMAX) – Guyana Amazon Warriors captain Ryad Emrit admits a surprise bowling tactic by the Trinbago Knight Riders was unsettling but ultimately did not cause the team to lose the second Caribbean Premier League (CPL) qualifier on Thursday.

The Knight Riders secured a six-wicket win over the Warriors and with it a spot in the CPL final against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots today.
The Warriors, who defeated the Tallawahs in the previous round, possessed two of the league’s most in-form batsmen in Chadwick Walton and Luke Ronchi, but the duo seemed held in check by Bravo’s opening gambit which saw seven different bowlers used for the first eight overs.
Pushed on the back foot early on, Ronchi who made a blistering 70 from 33 in the previous match and Walton the tournament’s leading scorer, were dismissed for 37 and 23 respectively. Ronsford Beaton ended with figures of two for 30, with Narine claiming 2 for 21.
Despite that, however, Emrit is convinced that the team had enough runs on the board to win the encounter.
“We didn’t get a chance to line up with any bowler and that worked in their favour but I still thought that 159 was a good score to defend but our dropped catches didn’t help us,” Emrit said.
“It’s probably one of our worst nights in the field, our fielding definitely wasn’t up to par, but that’s how it goes; we will have our bad days and we will have to put it behind us, unfortunately, it was in the semifinals,” he added.
