THE seven-year-old girl whose body recently washed up at Ruimzeight foreshore, West Coast Demerara days after she was reported missing died from drowning.
This is according to a post-mortem performed on the remains of Jayleena Titus of Lot 29 Second Street, Alberttown, Georgetown on Wednesday.
The child’s mother Onecia Henry, 38, said on August 26, the child left home with her father, Richard Titus, 38, her 10-year-old brother and her 8-year-old cousin to visit the Kingston jetty in the vicinity of the Marriott Hotel, as they often did to fish.
She related that her son told her they were playing in the water near the foreshore, while the father was further out fishing.
As they were playing, Jayleena slipped away and her brother went after her but she was reportedly swept under the water by strong current and waves.
A desperate search was launched for her but she was not found. Her body was subsequently discovered at Ruimzeight foreshore, West Coast Demerara, two days after she disappeared at sea.
