THE semi-finals of this year’s Corona Invitational Football tournament will bring the heat when they get going this Sunday at the GFC ground, Bourda.
The GFC side will have to play Northern Rangers while the Police Force will have to produce a lot of spunk to arrest the Western Tigers FC.
In the first of the double-header quarter-final games on Sunday, Police were able to overcome Santos FC but not as easily as they once thought, as the 2-1 score line could have easily gone the other way.
Sherwin Skeete opened the scoring in the 55th minute after a drought in the first half and the Santos unit seemed to be pulling off an upset.
However, Quincy Holder was evelled it up just two minutes later to ensure that his side was not disadvantaged. He later completed the double in the 77th minute to seal the game.
In the second game, GFC were able to railroad Riddim Squad easily via a 5-2 margin.
Benjamin Opera was the first to score in the game with a quick-fire double GFC taking the lead four minutes into the half and extending just over a minute later.
Opera completed his hat-trick and the team’s fifth goal of the night in the 72nd, with Joel Humphrey and Dwayne Roberio each slotting in one before.
Kevin Gordon and Scyeon Hope kept the score line respectable.
