LUSIGNAN Prison escapees Ryan Jones and Tishawn McKenzie last Friday appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and changed their pleas to guilty and were each sentenced to one year imprisonment.
The majority of the 13 prison escapees were recaptured by the Joint Services after digging their way to freedom from the Lusignan holding facility. They were all charged with escaping lawful custody.
Between July 23 and the wee hours of July 24, the fugitives burrowed their way out of the holding area via a five-foot deep tunnel next to the fence at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara.
Some of the recaptured prisoners include: Odel Roberts, Jamal Forde, Rayon Jones, Winston Long, Teshawn McKenzie, Jason Howard and Jamal Joseph.
Forde, Long and Joseph confessed to the offences and were each sentenced to one year imprisonment when they appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh recently at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.
