THREE men were on Thursday charged with the murder of 51-year-old Dhanpaul Dookie called “Pauline,” who was killed at his Uitspa Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway home during a home invasion.
Chanderpaul Persaud, 45; Harrilall Ramdan, 54, both farmers and Janiswar Gannie, a 29-year-old fisherman, all residents of the East Coast Demerara (ECD), were jointly placed before City Magistrate Faith McGusty.
Particulars of the charge alleged that between July 24 and July 26 at Uitspa Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, they murdered Dookie. The unrepresented men were not required to plead to the indictable offence and were remanded to prison until August 7, when they will appear before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.

According to reports, the murder allegedly occurred between 20:00 hrs on July 24 and 08:00 hrs on Wednesday, ,July 26, at Dookie’s residence. The suspects reportedly worked for the now dead man, who was killed during the home invasion. Dookie reportedly had given the men $18,000 and was beaten for more money.
The victim finally told them that he had over 200,000 in a rice bucket, after which they killed him and made good their escape. Dookie’s body was discovered three days after by persons who had gone to check on the cause of his absence.
However person in the area became suspicious after they saw the three men in the area consuming alcohol. When investigators arrested the trio, they reportedly confessed to the murder.
The three men were each previously charged: one for murder, but that case was dismissed; another for attempted murder, and that case is pending in the High Court; and the third was charged with several other criminal offences.
