Ex-cop slapped with robbery charges

AN ex-policeman was remanded to prison after being slapped with two robbery-related charges on Friday morning at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Edwin Nunes of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, robbed Dimitri Charles of his keys, chain and ring, valued $53,000 on July 18, 2017 in the vicinity of Campbellville Avenue Georgetown.
The 24-year-old suspect who had disguised as a woman, had allegedly committed the act with several other accomplices, all of whom were armed with cutlasses and knives. Nunes was said to be armed as well. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
It is also alleged that Nunes, along with another on July 18, 2017, in Sheriff Street, Georgetown, robbed Parmanan Harrylall of one cell phone and cutlass, totalling $13,000. The unrepresented man pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Corporal Harris objected to bail based on the nature of the charge. He also stated that the ex-police officer has been previously charged. Nunes was remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly, who stated that bail was refused because the defendant had a previous matter of similar nature.
