POLICE are awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the file of the eight-year-old Sophia schoolboy who was recently found dead.
Commander ‘A’ Division, Marlon Chapman said the file was sent to the Office of the DPP and three persons remain in police custody as the investigations continue.
The body of Isaiah David Smartt of Lot 148, ‘E’ Block Plum Park, Sophia, was found in a yard on Tuesday afternoon by a relative.
The boy was last seen alive on Monday night when he left home to visit his father, who resides a short distance away.
A post-mortem on the body revealed that he died from asphyxiation and compression injuries to the neck.
Police have said Smartt’s death was unnatural.
His body was found in a swampy yard which was considered too shallow for him to drown. The boy’s relatives suspect his death was caused by foul play since he was an excellent swimmer.
Commander Chapman said Smartt’s body, which bore no visible marks of violence, was found about 19:45hrs on Tuesday in water two feet high.
He related that after the child left his mother’s house alone and did not show up, a search was launched by relatives who discovered his body and summoned the police.
