Suspected hit-and-run driver still on the run

POLICE in ‘D’ Division are hunting for the vehicle and driver who fled the scene of what they suspected to be a fatal hit-and-run accident at Orangestein Public Road, East Bank Essequibo on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

The lifeless and bloodied body of fisherman, Krishna Sattie called “Toney” of Lot 35 Alliance, Canal Number 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara, was found lying on the roadway.

The police were summoned to the scene and they observed that the fisherman’s head was crushed.

Police surmised that Sattie was struck down sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and left for dead.

A post-mortem is expected to be performed on the body on Friday.

According to traffic headquarters statistics, thus far in 2017, 46 road accidents have been recorded in which 49 persons died, including a child.
