A MINIBUS conductor appeared before City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with four counts of simple larceny.
Rico Persaud, 24, of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, did not have legal representation and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Particulars of the first charge alleged that on June 10, 2017 at Oronoque and Lance Gibbs Street, Georgetown, Persaud stole a laptop valued $85,000 from Mohammed Nasir.
It is further alleged that Persaud on March 12, at Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown stole a Sony Xperia cellphone valued $150,000 from Angelique Parag. Additionally, it is alleged that on May 20 at the Marriott Hotel, Persaud stole a Samsung S7 Edge cellphone valued $140,000 and $50,000 cash, property of Bahrajnee Shivpaul.
It is also alleged that on the same day and location, the accused stole a Samsung S7 Edge cellphone valued $140,000, property of Dookie Amad. Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne objected to Persaud being released on bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offences.
The Magistrate however overruled the prosecution’s objections and granted Persaud $35,000 bail on each of the four charges. The matter is adjourned until June 28, 2017.
