A ROUTE 40 minibus tout was sentenced to one month imprisonment by City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore, for assaulting his girlfriend.
Joel Forde, 34, of Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) confessed that on June 3, 2017 at Agricola, EBD, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Shanice Maynard.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne told the court that the couple has been in a relationship for over eight years and used to live together but due to Forde’s abusive habits, Maynard moved out.
Payne explained that on the day in question, at about 11:00 hrs, the defendant went to his girlfriend’s home in Agricola, EBD, and behaved in a disorderly manner; he cuffed the woman to her face and body when he saw she was texting another man.
The matter was reported and the accused was later arrested. The Magistrate after considering Forde early guilty plea sentenced him to one month imprisonment.
