TWO men were on Monday charged in relation to injuries they allegedly inflicted on each other during a fight at East La Penitence Bridge, Georgetown which left both of them hospitalised for a few days.
Colin Daly, 23 of East La Penitence and Reon Jonas,22 of Phase One Mandela Avenue, West Ruimveldt appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman on different charges.
Daly was charged for unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on to Jonas on May 8 at East La Penitence. He however denied the charge and was released on $60,000 bail.
Meanwhile, Jonas was charged for allegedly discharging a loaded firearm at Daly with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm to him. Jones denied the charge and was remanded to prison.
In Court, Police prosecution explained that on the day in question about 20:20hrs Daly was standing drinking a Guinness at East La Penitence Bridge when he was approached by Jonas, who discharged several rounds at him. Daly quickly armed himself with a cutlass and chopped Jonas about his hand, the court heard.
Daly was shot to his arm, while Jonas was chopped to his left hand. However, Jonas pointed out that men in the area saw the commotion and discharged several rounds in the air with their guns and one of the bullets hit Daly. The matter has been adjourned until June 12.
