THE Rupununi Football Association (RFA) in collaboration with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) will host a Referees’ Beginners Course at Lethem, Region 9, May 12-14, involving over 40 persons, both male and female.
A release from the GFF states that five villages as well as persons from central Lethem will participate in the course to be held from 10:00hrs to 17:00hrs daily.
This is the second course facilitated by the GFF for the RFA and it will cover both classroom and field sessions, including the laws of the game, filling match forms, report writing, the role and functions of referees as well as that of the fourth official. It will be facilitated by Stanley Lancaster, head of the GFF Refereeing Department.
Additionally, Lancaster said that an oversight referees’ body for the region will be installed and a Referee Development Officer will be appointed.
“The initiative is part of the new structure for referee development across the country and aligns well with the new direction of football management as implemented by the Technical Department.
“This new structure will enable better development and management of referees. The Referee Development Officer (RDO) will be responsible for appointing and training referees as well as reporting to the department’” Lancaster said.
