– 22,896 cases against drivers

THE Traffic Department has recorded a 19 per cent decrease in fatal accidents, according to new statistics released by the police.
Thirty-eight fatalities were recorded at the end of April, compared to 44 for the same period last year.
In a statement police noted that the continuous robust traffic enforcement exercise countrywide did not only contribute to a decrease in fatal accidents but also resulted in a 16.3 per cent decrease in serious accidents, a 27per cent decrease in minor accidents and a 23per cent decrease in damage accidents.

Meanwhile, police stated that there were 22,896 cases against drivers from Jan-April, 2017, with speeding and breach of conditions of Road Service Licence/Music accounting for 8,962 of the total amount
.”The reduction in serious crimes and also that of fatal and other categories of accidents, is certainly attributed to the many strategies employed by the Force, including the recent formation of several WhatsApp Groups by its Public Relations Department, linking all police ranks from Commanders down to Subordinate Officers-in-charge of Stations with stakeholders, inclusive of the Private Sector Commission, Chambers of Commerce, Community Policing Groups, the Media, etc,” the police stated.
