COLWYN Harding was released on $50,000 bail on Wednesday by City Magistrate,Fabayo Azore for the offence of robbery.
Harding, 26, of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme,Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the allegation which stated that on April 15, 2017 at Lime Street, Georgetown, he robbed Margaret Baird of three cell phones valued $160,000,and a pair of eye-glasses,among other articles to the value of $211,000.
Harding, a father of one and a vendor, told the court that he did not rob the woman and that he is willing to help her purchase a new pair of glasses. According to the unrepresented man, he was at home sleeping when the woman was robbed.
However, the victim, who was present in court, expressed her frustration and fear to the Magistrate, as she noted that her purse was snatched with the items inside. According to the complainant, persons have been calling from the stolen phones, threatening her. Magistrate Azore however released Harding on bail and adjourned the matter until May 3 2017.
Last November, Harding was remanded to prison after it was alleged that he and another man robbed Jameel Williams of a Samsung cell phone, a pocket knife and $15,000 cash.
In July 2014, Harding was charged with violently robbing Cheryl Ann Hope of $30,000 cash and three Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones costing $360,000 at Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
Harding became known in 2013 after he had accused two police ranks of raping him with a baton while he was in custody at the Timehri Police Station.
The police ranks were charged the following year with assault causing actual bodily harm. However, the charge was dismissed against them in March 2016,after Magistrate Leron Daly found that there was insufficient evidence to convict.
