A MASON was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday for the offence of armed robbery, which he allegedly committed on a Linden grocer and his wife.
Devon De Freitas, 25, of Amelia’s Ward Linden, denied the allegation, which stated that on April 7, 2017 at Central Amelia’s Ward Linden, while armed with a gun, he robbed Stephon Archer of a wedding band and a gold chain valued $125,000. It is further alleged that on the same day at Central Amelia’s Ward Linden, while armed with a gun he robbed Jennel Archer of a wedding band, a finger ring and $15,000 cash, all totaling $65,000.
An unrepresented De Freitas pleaded not guilty to the two charges. Police Prosecutor, Alwyn Moore told the court that the victims operate a grocery in Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden. Prosecutor Moore opposed bail for the defendant and cited the nature and gravity of the offence.
He further pointed out that the police are currently investigating a charge of illegal possession of a firearm against the accused. The Chief Magistrate ruled in the prosecution’s favour and remanded De Freitas until April 26, 2017,when he will appear at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
