TWO MEN appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday, jointly charged with the attempted murder of a security guard outside Fogarty’s building, Water Street, Georgetown.

Murder accused, Jason Howard

Murder accused, Jason Howard called ‘Smelly’, 21, of East La Penitence and former murder accused, Kevin France, 27 of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, were not required to plea to the indictable charge. It is alleged that on October 21, 2016 at Water Street, Georgetown, they wounded Quacy Joseph with intent to murder him.

Joseph is a security guard attached to Electronics City branch on Water Street, Georgetown; he was shot during a robbery which took place within the store in the Fogarty’s building.

Over the past few months, the men were charged separately and placed before different courts for the said charge. However, based upon advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the charges were withdrawn and a joint charge was instituted against them.

Prosecutor, Alwyn Moore had opposed bail and noted that Howard is before the court on a murder charge. He also pointed out that the men were also separately charged with other robberies. France is currently out on $800,000 bail on robbery charges.

The Chief Magistrate refused bail for Howard and released France on $500,000 bail. The matter is adjourned until April 28.
