A TOTAL of four persons were arrested following a police operation recently in several areas in the mining town of Linden.
The team under Commander of ‘E’ (Linden/Kwakwani) Division, Senior Superintendent Fizal Karimbaksh, charged the men for narcotics and marijuana possession. Harvey Billey, 35, a Carpenter of Central Amelia’s Ward,Linden,was on Monday 27th March 2017 at 22:50hrs arrested by Ranks of Mackenzie Police Station who were on Mobile Patrol Duty, in the vicinity of Central Amelia’s Ward Linden. He was observed riding a red bicycle and acting in a suspicious manner.He was then stopped and a search was conducted on him during which seven grams of narcotics was found in his right pants pocket.
Police said he was then told of the offence committed and replied,“officer,is only a fine thing,please for chance.”He was placed in custody and appeared in court on Wednesday 29th,March 2017.The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Pindar at the Linden Magistrate Court before His Worship Clive Nurse when Billey pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years imprisonment with a fine of $35,000.
On March 27,at about 17:00hrs, ranks of the Wismar Police Station acting upon information received, went to One Mile Public Road,Wismar Linden, and conducted a search on the shop owned by Lennox Stanley,68 years old. Police said the search was conducted in his presence,and one large transparent zip lock plastic bag was found in a red jacket which was hanging on the wall, which contained several small zip lock bags that contained cannabis. The drugs were weighed and amounted to 70 grams.Stanley was told of the offense committed and replied saying,“I don’t want to go back to jail again, lets workout something”.He was arrested and placed in custody. On March 28th the matter was prosecuted by Inspector Pindar at the Linden Magistrate Court before His Worship Clive Nurse.Stanley pleaded not guilty and the prosecution objected to bail since he was charged before for an offence of that nature. The magistrate ordered that he be remanded to prison until 25th April 2017.
On March 26 at 21:35hrs Roy Thompson, 57, a Farmer of West Watooka,approached a road block exercise being conducted at Burnham Drive,Wismar Linden. Constable Allman,a plain clothes rank identified herself to him as a police officer,and upon hearing this he threw something into the bushes. The ranks then conducted a search on the area and found the cannabis,which when weighed amounted to 2 grams.He was told of the offense committed and replied saying, “Officer,I’m being honest,I don’t traffic weed, but me aint able go to jail for a joint so I throw it away”. On March 29,the matter was prosecuted by Inspector Pindar at the Linden Magistrate Court before His Worship Clive Nurse. Thompson pleaded guilty and was ordered to perform fifty hours of community service or serve two (2) months imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Jumaine Arthur, 28, called ‘Cut Belly’,a vendor of 1088 Central Amelia’s Ward,MacKenzie, Linden was arrested after police in a’cordon and search exercise’in the MacKenzie Market area found a quantity of cannabis which amounted to 20.8 grams. He was charged with Trafficking in Narcotics. On March 24,he appeared at the Wales Magistrate Court before Magistrate Clive Nurse and pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison.
