A FATHER and daughter were terrorised by two bandits at their Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on Tuesday night.
Salome Lall, 24, explained to the Guyana Chronicle that at approximately 20:30hrs, she was at home with her father, Mohan Lall, and a toddler when the two men pounced on them.
She said the gunmen gained entry through the open front door.
“My mom and brother were at church and the front door was open and we were chatting in the living room when a man ran in the house with a gun and demanded money,” said the distraught Salome.
While the gunman was in the house, another man who was armed with a scissors entered and assaulted her father and demanded cash and other valuables. One of the men stabbed the elderly Lall in his head with the scissors.
“At that time I had $105,000 in my purse and that was what they got, along with two phones and a laptop…that was not enough for them because they said ‘let us go upstairs’.So I went up with them and they brought my dad… my dad had US$670 in his room so he gave them that and his wedding ring,” Salome told Guyana Chronicle.
Before escaping, the bandits locked the two victims in a room. Meanwhile, the family is not happy with the police response. They told this newspaper that when the police were contacted, the family was told that investigators will visit the scene the next day.
But, after several calls, an officer arrived at their home “looked around the yard” and told the family to go to the Beterverwagting Police Station on Wednesday.
The traumatised family said that this is the first such incident to have occurred to them, but noted that the area is prone to robberies.
Mohan, who retired recently, said that he was slated to go on a vacation but due to the ordeal he has to now focus on his family’s safety.
