SEASONED campaigner Harold ‘Top Gun’ Hopkinson and Jamaine Braithwaite emerged as the best senior and junior shooters following the 2017 season-opener of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GuyanaNRA) Smallbore Section.
The event, which commenced and concluded last Saturday at the Tactical Services Unit Range of the Guyana Police Force saw shooters of various ranks return to the most basic form of competition.
Competitors took on one another in three stages of shooting from 5m to 15m.
When all was over and the scores were tallied, veteran marksman Harold Hopkinson did not allow his age to be a deterrent as he racked up 231 points out of a possible 250 to take the top spot in the senior competition while Jamaine Braithwaite, who managed 217 points, ruled the roost among the juniors.
Hopkinson pushed Surujbali Persaud to second place, after he amassed 205 points with 3Vs and Joshua Ramlakhan who scored 187 points with 3Vs to third in the senior division.
In the Junior category, Braithwaite amassed 217 points with 5Vs to come out ahead of Randy Barnwell (205 with 1V) and Erwin Chapman (194 with 2Vs)
Meanwhile, Hopkinson and Rajiv Latchana will compete at the Amazon Shoot set for Suriname from March 31.
