Man faces jury for rape of minor

MORE than 10 witnesses are expected to take the stand during the in-camera rape trial at the Georgetown High Court before a 12-member jury and Justice Jo-Ann Barlow.

Josiah Baptiste is accused of carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 15 during June, 2007 at an East Coast Demerara village. The accused is represented by attorney-at-law, Maxwell McKay and Folio Richards. The jury was empanelled earlier this week where the eighth witness testified on Wednesday.

The State’s case is that Baptiste had carnal knowledge of the child between June 1 and 30, 2007. At the time of the incident the child was only six years old.
