MEMBERS of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were on Tuesday urged to become transformational leaders and to live with a sense of outcome.
Reverend Dr. Marlon Hestick, President of Wesleyan University (Guyana), Vreed-en-Hoop Church gave the charge during the GDF commissioning service for the Standard Officers Course #49 at the Auditorium, Base Camp Ayanganna.

The Reverend in his sermon to the gathering spoke of the life of a soldier, as he talked about transformational leadership for elevation as a group of ranks is being prepared to take up leadership roles. He added that for those ranks to efficiently discharge their duties they must enhance themselves first before they can be efficient and for that to take place they must transform themselves to benefit from what is in store for them.
Reverend Hestick stated that for one to be transformed, that person must first have the desire to do so in order to experience growth or they will remain stagnant in terms of their leadership skills. He related that leadership enhances morals and it is essential for the

advancement in any institution bearing in mind “slingshots can bring down war tanks”.
The church service started with the arrival of the Chief-of-Staff, Brigadier Patrick West, followed by the Colour Party.
