Two hospitalized in Skeldon smash-up, driver flees scene

An accident on the Skeldon Public Road on Monday, has left a driver and a foreman attached to the Skeldon Estate in a critical condition.

According to reports at around 14:30hrs, a car jumped the train line and slammed into the Pickup truck attached to the Skeldon Estate as it was making its way onto the public road. The car also collided with a White Toyota 192 Carina.

The pickup toppled several times and when it finally came to a halt, the occupants were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital in an unconscious state. The injured were identified as Hemand Jagdeo, 48, the driver of the pickup and James Kempadoo, 58, a foreman. The driver of the car reportedly fled the scene after the accident.

According to eyewitnesses, the car – a white Toyota IST – bearing license plate PRR 7600, was travelling at a fast rate and failed to adhere to the ‘STOP’ sign at the train line.

“The pickup was turning out and next thing I see a lil white car fly over the train line and knock the pickup. It topple couple time and hit a next white car, then it land upside down…. But the driver a de lil white car ani’t wait fuh see what happen he just jump out and run way,” an eyewitness said.

Within moments of the accident, medical personnel from the Skeldon Hospital arrived at the scene took the injured men from the pickup with the assistance of other employees of the Estate.

Guyana Chronicle understands that both men suffered head injuries and broken limbs. The hunt is on for the driver of the car.
