PANAMA CITY, Panama (CMC) – Panama have included a number of key overseas-based players in a strong squad named to face Trinidad and Tobago in their 2018 World Cup qualifier next Friday in Port of Spain.
In the lineup are midfielders Anibal Godoy and Armando Cooper, who both play in the MLS for San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC respectively, along with Miguel Camargo who is currently on loan at New York City FC, also in the United States top tier.
Defender Roman Torres, who campaigns for Seattle Sounders in the MLS and fellow members of the back line Adolfo Machado of Houston Dynamo and Harold Cummins of San Jose are also named in head coach Dario Gomez’s 24-man squad.
Goalkeeper Jaime Penedo, who turns out for Dinamo Bucharest in the Romanian top flight, will also make the trip to Trinidad.
Panama lie third in the CONCACAF final round of qualifiers on four points – the same as confederation giants Mexico who are second courtesy of a superior goal difference.
Costa Rica top the standings with six points.
Trinidad and Tobago, meanwhile, lie one from bottom of the six-team group without a point after losing their opening two matches and need to beat Panama in order to rescue their World Cup campaign.
The game is scheduled for the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
