Ex-cop accused of raping teen

A FORMER policeman is in police custody following allegations that he raped a 14-year-old girl.

Police said that the former rank was discharged from the Guyana Police Force since June 9, 2016.  According to reports, the 26-year-old man and the teenager have been involved in an intimate relationship for close to two months.

It is alleged that the rape took place in West Ruimveldt, Georgetown on March 9 but was only reported to the police on March 15. Reports indicate that the man would normally pick up the girl from a city school and take her to his home where they would engage in sexual acts.

However, the young girl’s grandmother later found out about her relationship with the older man and questioned her during which she admitted to knowing the man. The former cop is being accused of rape, given the fact that the child is a minor and is below the age of consent.
