ANSA McAl, through the Proctor and Gamble brand and Gillette, has thrown its full support behind the team Wreckers for the upcoming Reaction Drag Race meet of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC).
The team, headed by Anand Ramchand, will be in four classes this Sunday with the company providing sponsorship for three, including last year’s 12-second class winner’s Toyota Levin.
At a handing-over ceremony yesterday, Proctor and Gamble co-coordinator Diana Ally contended that the company is proud to be a part of the team, adding, “We’d sponsored last year and we were a part of the team last year and we are going to be a part of the Gillette car (team).”
Meanwhile, team leader Ramchand contended that “the 12-second is the biggest class there is; the last time it was tough but we are going again and the beautiful thing is that the mechanic drove the 12-second car and we hope to see him do it again.”
He noted that apart from the Levin in the 12-second class, they will also be in the 10-second class with a Mitsubishi evolution six, as well as the 11- and 13-second classes with a Toyota Celica and a Nissan Pulsar GTIR.
The team, which has been known as a dark horse both in the Drag and Endurance racing world, is hoping to pick up more than one title, when the lights go green at the South Dakota Circuit.
Sunday’s event, which will feature six cars from Suriname and eight classes of action, is expected to begin at 09:00hrs with free runs.
