FIRE of unknown origin gutted a home at Morawhanna in the North West District on Monday night, leaving one person dead.

Dead is Pearl Gill, known as “Miss Pearl”, a food vendor who is said to be in her 80s. Reports are that the woman’s home was observed in flames shortly before midnight at the North West District community by residents. According to reports, the woman may have left her stove lighted and fell asleep.

On Tuesday morning the wooden two flat building was still smoldering when persons discovered the woman’s charred remains at the scene. A resident in the area noted that Gill usually bakes pastries and cook food which she sold at the business community of Kumaka,near Mabaruma. Police in the area are investigating the incident.
