TWO men were released on $75,000 bail by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Wednesday after they were accused of breaking into the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) building and stealing a quantity of items.Ricardo Fernandes, 43 of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme and Prakash Ally, 28 of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara,pleaded not guilty to the joint charge. It is alleged that between February 12 and February 24, 2017 at Croal Street, Georgetown, the duo broke into the GTT building and stole two toilet bowls, three security lights, two toilet tanks, two carpets and other items to the value of $276,020.
The unrepresented Ally told the court, “Your Worship, I does thief but only lil alcohol and fruits, I don’t trouble nobody thing.” Meanwhile,Fernandes explained that the building was already broken into before. The court heard that the duo was arrested after the carpets were found in their possession. Police prosecutor Simone Payne did not object to bail; bail was granted and the matter was adjourned to March 15, 2017.
