PRESIDENT of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) Wavell Hinds will continue to lead the organisation after an Annual General Meeting in Antigua yesterday returned his entire administration for a third term.The AGM, held at the Halcyon Cove by Rez Resorts in Antigua, included accorded to reports healthy debates on a number of issues. However, none of those dimmed the organisation’s trust in its leadership.
The result means Hinds, who leads a slate of Nixon McLean as his vice-president, Wayne Lewis as honorary secretary, Ridley Jacobs as honorary treasurer and Liam Sebastien as honorary assistant secretary, will now take on another two years at the helm of the organisation.
Hinds said that for his part he will continue to lead the WIPA in a direction that will foster development opportunities and provide welfare and other benefits for its members.
The WIPA has been mired in controversy over the last few years, with Hinds being accused of siding with the board in creating unfair deals for West Indies players, contrary to the spirit of agreements with those players.
The biggest blow-up of those differences occurred with the West Indies players walking out on a tour of India.
WIPA has responded, by pointing out that the benefits that the organisation has tried to provide are for all its members and not just players who represent the West Indies. (Sportsmax)
