Sentenced to 94 yrs for killing two brothers

ABDUL Bacchus, 30, who killed his two brothers in 2012, was yesterday sentenced to 94 years after a mixed jury found him guilty of murder and manslaughter.He was sentenced to 62 years for the murder of brother Imran Bacchus and 32 years for the manslaughter of Shaheed Bacchus committed on September 30, 2012.

Both sentences will run concurrently – resulting in the prisoner not serving more than 62 years.

It is said that a period of 9 months is classified as a year in prison.

The accused was found guilty some weeks ago, but sentence was postponed to yesterday to accommodate a probation report.

The sentence was passed following the production of the probation report and a plea in mitigation by attorney-at-law Mike Somersal, defence counsel.
When asked whether he had anything to say, the accused in chains, told the judge that he was sorry for what had happened.
