A CG bandit was gunned down after trying to rob a businessman in Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, on Friday.Dead is Gary Koster, 38, of Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to reports, the robbery occurred at 14:45hrs when a 48-year-old businessman of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, who is a licensed firearm holder of a Taurus .32 pistol was attacked on the Mc Doom Public Road.
Reports indicate that the businessman was a passenger of motor truck GTT 5907 which was driven by Safraz Alli, 35.
At the junction of Houston, EBD, the driver stopped to let another vehicle exit the access road when two males rode up on a black and grey CG motorcycle bearing registration number 2167.
The pillion rider dismounted, pulled a gun from his waist and dealt the businessman a lash to his face while discharging a round.
The businessman then pulled out his licensed firearm and discharged four to five rounds in the suspects’ direction, hitting one of them who fell on the roadway while the other ran south along Mc Doom Public Road and escaped.
Police processed the scene and found three .32 and one 9 mm spent shells. The bandit was picked up and escorted to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The body had a gunshot wound to the left temple and one behind the neck.
The pick-up was examined and a bullet hole was seen on the left side of the windscreen.
The businessman and driver gave statements to the police as investigations continue. The motorcycle was taken to the West Ruimveldt Police Station.
